माना उत्पाद का क्रय मूल्य 140 है। अंकित मूल्य पर 35% की छूट देने पर 7.14% या (1/14)वें हिस्से की हानि होती है।

विक्रय मूल्य \( = 140 \times \left( {\frac{{130}}{{140}}} \right) = 130\) 

बिक्री मूल्य = लागत + मूल्य × ((100 - हानि)/100)

इसलिए, अंकित मूल्य का 65% , 130 है।

अंकित मूल्य \( = \frac{{130 \times 100}}{{65}} = 200\)

(M.P/C.P) = (100 - L%)/(100 – D%)

जहाँ,

(M.P/C.P) = (100 – L%)/(100 – D%)

⇒ M.P/C.P = (100 – 7.14)/(100 – 35)

⇒ M.P/C.P = 92.86/65     ----(1)

जब छूट 20% है

(M.P/C.P) = (100 + P%)/(100 – D%)

⇒ M.P/C.P = (100 + P%)/80

⇒ 92.86/65 = (100 + P%)/80

⇒ (92.86 × 80)/65 = 100 + P%

⇒ 114.28 = 100 + P%

⇒ P% = 14.28%

∴ अभीष्ट लाभ% 14.28% है।
